The article is devoted to the publication of the pottery with a stamp design from the Kniazha Hora Old Rus fortress. During field seasons of 1958–1965, a representative collection of ceramic products was found on the settlement by a detachment of the Slavic-Rus archaeology of the Kaniv complex expedition under the direction of Halyna Mezentseva. Pots that are decorated with geometric figures-stamps are noteworthy because they are rare for the Kniazha Hora area. Studying ornamentation is very important because the décor (...) reflects some aspects of the spiritual culture of ancient population. However, these unique findings have not been given due attention by previous researchers. In the papers, the stamp type of ornament is associated with the West Slavonic tradition. It testifies one more peculiarity of the Old Rus society’s culture, in particular, of the Kniazha Hora fortress. (shrink)

Since the end of the last century, there have been several ambitious attempts to naturalize Husserlian phenomenology by way of mathematization. To justify themselves in view of Husserl’s adamant antinaturalism, many of these attempts appeal to the new physico-mathematical tools that were unknown in Husserl’s time and thus allegedly make his position outdated. This paper critically addresses these mathematization proposals and aims to show that Husserl had, in fact, sufficiently good arguments that make his antinaturalistic position sound even today. The (...) starting point of the discussion presented in this paper is the mathematization project introduced by Jean-Michel Roy, Jean Petitot, Bernard Pachoud, and Francisco Varela in their introduction to the book Naturalizing Phenomenology. This proposal was followed by a number of critiques but also by several alternative naturalization attempts clearly inspired by Roy et al.’s ambitious project. The review of some of Husserl’s important arguments often overlooked or misinterpreted by both the naturalization advocates and their critics leads the author of the paper to the twofold conclusion which, on the one hand, explores the deeper reasons for the impossibility of a physical and mathematical treatment of phenomenology, on the other hand, clarifies the sense in which such treatments are possible, namely by way of restriction of the variety of experiential aspects that undergo naturalization and substitution of the aspects amenable to the direct mathematization for the directly unmathematizable ones. In the fourth section of this paper, the author attempts to demonstrate that, contrary to widespread belief, Husserl’s arguments are not obsolete by the standards of the contemporary physico-mathematical approaches employed in the mathematization of phenomenology and indeed stand the test of time. The paper presents a phenomenological critique of the enactive approach inaugurated by Francisco Varela, Eleanor Rosch, and Evan Thompson in The Embodied Mind (1991/2016). I argue that the way enactivists combine the natural and the transcendental accounts of consciousness leads to inconsistency in their approach. The aim of the paper is twofold. On the one hand, to provide a sharper distinction between the natural and the transcendental viewpoints on consciousness against the backdrop of enactivists’ alleged commitment to the latter. On (...) the other, to show that the lack of a proper distinction between the viewpoints in question leads to self-inconsistency in the enactive approach. I particularly analyze the enactivists’ idea of “fundamental circularity” between subjectivity and objectivity along with the closely related principle of “groundlessness” and attempt to demonstrate that these ultimately result in circular reasoning rather than “virtuous” or “creative” circularity, as enactivists seem to suggest. In this paper, I analyze several recent attempts to marry (cognitive) science and (classical) phenomenology. I argue that some of the most prominent proposals of such marriage are based on a conflation of two fundamentally different claims about experience that require different theoretical commitments. The _weak claim_ is that experience is important for science and cannot be neglected; the _strong claim_ is that experience is foundational for science. In my view, this conflation is mostly based on a misinterpretation of the (...) methods and goals of phenomenological philosophy in its original Husserlian form. I further argue that, if Husserl is right, this conflation may be detrimental to both phenomenology and science as it suppresses the value of the transcendental-phenomenological enterprise and disorients the objective-scientific approach. To set the stage for my argument I examine Adam Frank, Marcelo Gleiser, and Evan Thompson’s 2024 book _The Blind Spot_ reading it back-to-back with Husserl’s _Crisis_. (shrink)

In this paper, I analyze Husserl’s concept of definiteness and its most common interpretations, starting with the one provided by Oskar Becker in his habilitation thesis written under Husserl’s supervision. The notion of definiteness characterizes a consistent and complete formal system and has long been a subject of heated debate. Contrary to the widespread reading of the concept of definiteness as a certain standard (either a realistic or an idealistic one) devised for the exact sciences, I propose to view this (...) concept as a descriptive term in the transcendental sense of the word. I argue that such an interpretation is grounded in Husserl’s "principle of all principles" and helps get a much better grasp of his phenomenological approach to mathematics and logic. (shrink)

Статтю присвячено аналізу матеріальної культури давньоруського населення Канівського Подніпров’я з погляду її інформаційних та атрактивних властивостей як предмета музейної експозиції. Проаналізовано як предмети матеріальної культури, так і нерухомі археологічні об’єкти та комплекси. Інформаційні властивості давніх артефактів як потенційних музейних експонатів запропоновано визначати за історичною інтерпретацією та статистичним принципом. Рівень атрактивності традиційно визначається зовнішнім виглядом артефакту і має відносний характер. До історичної інтерпретації входить низка характеристик: техніко-типологічні особливості артефактів, їхнє функціональне значення, походження, соціальна страта та етнічна належність власника або значення об’єкта (...) для давнього суспільства в період його функціонування за прямим призначенням. У музейній експозиції також повинні висвітлюватися регіональні особливості історико-культурного розвитку Канівського Подніпров’я у Х–ХІІІ ст. Статистичний принцип враховує чотири аспекти. У першому випадку статистично опрацьовуються для потреб музейної експозиції масові або рідкісні типи артефактів, притаманні «надетнічній» загальнодержавній культурі Давньої Русі. До другого належать матеріальні залишки, притаманні традиційній культурі східних слов’ян. До третього – об’єкти матеріальної спадщини, характерні для традиційної культури іноетнічних груп, які проживали на теренах Канівського Подніпров’я в давньоруський час. Четвертий аспект стосується імпортних речей. Отже, за інформаційними властивостями експонати розподілено на три групи: допоміжні, основні та унікальні. Перші відносно інших мають найменшу атрактивність, другі – середню, треті – високу. Експонати групи «допоміжні» доповнюють музейну експозицію, розширюючи її «інформаційний діапазон». Артефакти групи «основні» є рештками предметів матеріальної культури, здебільшого статистично найпоширеніших у культурних нашаруваннях пам’яток і пов’язаних із широкими масами давньоруського населення Канівського Подніпров’я. Знахідки групи «унікальні» спрямовані на підвищення загального рівня атрактивності експозиції. Переважно це речі, пов’язані з представниками соціальної верхівки давньоруського суспільства; або знахідки, які є носіями статистично рідкісної історичної інформації. Автор доходить висновку, що задля відображення якомога ширшої інформації про матеріальну культуру давньоруського населення в музейній експозиції мають бути представлені експонати всіх трьох груп. Однак центральне місце має належати експонатам групи «основні», оскільки саме вони відображають характер матеріальної культури найширших мас населення. -/- . (shrink)

The authors of the book have come to the conclusion that toensuring the country’s security in the conditions of military aggression, it is necessary to use the mechanisms of protection of territories and population, support of economic entities, international legal levers of influence on the aggressor country. Basic research focuses on assessment the resource potential of enterprises during martial law, the analysis of migration flows in the middle of the country and abroad, the volume of food exports, marketing and logistics (...) system. The research results have been implemented in the different decision-making models during martial law, information and economic security management, formation of personnel potential and assets of enterprises, food, energy and environmental security management, use of budgetary levers and financial instruments. The results of the study can be used in the developing of directions, programs and strategies for the post-war recovery of Ukraine’s economy and the attraction of foreign investments in the regions, decision-making at the level of ministries and agencies that regulate security management processes. The results can also be used by students and young scientists in the educational process and conducting scientific research on the problems of ensuring the country’s security. (shrink)
